Back in 2019 captive-born gorilla parents Djongo and Mayombe were introduced to one another on a protected island in the lush forests of the Bateke Plateaux in the Gabon, which saw the love story of the decade begin.
Instantly the pair were infatuated with one another, spending their days dancing in courtship and foraging together. On the 14th June 2021 our dedicated local team delighted us with the news that the pair had become parents, to the wonderous little Taali.
Mayombe has taken exceptional care of Taali in her first few years of motherhood and the whole family are now ready to take their final steps to complete freedom. The construction of a new bridge is all that is required to give this young family access to the entire reserve, allowing them to become fully self-sufficient under the watchful eye of our expert team.
Living on a habituation island with her family has given Taali a strong start, but as she gets bigger there just isn’t enough food for her and we need to give her a safe access point to cross over to the mainland to feed and develop in a larger area. We need your support to help Taali, her family and all those other young gorillas in the future, take those final steps to full freedom.
Just a small donation today will make the bridge a reality. The bridge is not just for this family but will be used by many families as time goes on. And it is not just building the bridge: a donation today will also help fund new camera traps so we can keep track of all our gorilla families as they grow and develop in the wild. In addition, your donation will help support extra feeding for all the new gorillas and their families so they will be supported on every step of their individual rewilding journeys.
